Marketing in the Digital Age: Batteries Not Included - Nov. 11
The shifting of authority and influence from traditional media outlets to literary bloggers and passionate reader-critics
has forever changed marketing for publishers and authors. It’s not enough to host a random blog, build a Facebook page
or create a Twitter account; you need an integrated strategy to capitalize on these tools to earn your audience’s attention.
Engaging directly with readers is a must nowadays, but the myriad of forums and platforms where that engagement might take
place can be daunting, especially when a fascination with the "new shiny" is the driving force—instead of
fulfilling readers' needs. The opportunities are unprecedented, but there's no rulebook for how to profitably
take advantage of them. Marketing in the Digital Age: Batteries Not Included, a free webinar from Digital Book World,
will get past the hype and focus on the key opportunities and challenges presented by social media tools, including: -Building
a brand using social media tools -Being "authentic" and becoming a valued member of the community -Engaging
directly with new media influencers and reader-critics -Integrating social media into overall marketing strategy -Defining
and determining ROI
Guy LeCharles Gonzalez, Director of Audience Development for Digital Book World will moderate
a lively and provocative discussion with Jane Friedman, Publisher & Editorial Director, Writer’s Digest Community;
Diana Vilibert, Web Editor, Marie Claire; Patrick Boegel, Director, Media Integration, Media Logic; and Dan Blank, Director
of Content Strategy and Development, Reed Business Information. Marketing in the Digital Age: Batteries Not Included
will be held on Wednesday, November 11th @ 1 pm EST. For more information, visit: http://www.digitalbookworld.com/showevents/

Academy of Film and Television Acting Master Workshop
The International Academy of Film and Television (IAFT) will host its second Acting Master Workshop in Los Angeles on November
21, 2009. IAFT has invited established American actor Paul Ben-Victor to conduct the new workshop, which will be held one
day only from 12:00PM to 6:00PM at The Hayworth Theatre. Entitled "Character / Chameleon," Paul Ben-Victor's
exclusive workshop will focus on the process, technique and preparation that has allowed him to work consistently in TV and
film for more than 20 years. A wholly-owned subsidiary of film production company Bigfoot Entertainment, IAFT is based in
Cebu, Philippines and attracts talented students from all over the world who strive to develop skills necessary to gain a
competitive edge in today's international film community.
Space in the workshop is limited and IAFT advises
interested participants to enroll early. For additional details on enrollment fees, requirements and location, please visit
www.filmschool.ph/LAworkshops or call 310-593-4800 or 866-900-4179.
IAFT's first Los Angeles workshop, "On Set/Intensity/On Action,"
taught by renowned Action star Michael Biehn, was filled to capacity and well-received by participants this past July.
"IAFT's Los Angeles programs are quickly becoming coveted events, as we saw with enrollment and feedback
from our first workshop," said Keith Sensing, Executive Director, International Academy of Film and Television. "By
recruiting distinguished talent such as Paul Ben-Victor, we are dedicated to offering high-level programs to cultivate burgeoning
talent in the Los Angeles area."
Offering a highly valuable perspective on the Acting craft, Paul Ben-Victor
has built a career entertaining audiences and impressing critics with his work in film, television and on stage. He has worked
with Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Al Pacino, Liam Neeson, Clint Eastwood, Eddie Murphy, John Travolta, Quentin Tarantino, Tony Scott
and Christopher Walken, among others. With roles on numerous HBO series and over 50 films, he has time and again delivered
standout performances with his tremendous range of characters. On television, he has made a lasting impression as Greek henchman
Spiros Vondas on the widely acclaimed series The Wire, as well as in his role as Stan McQueen on In Plain Sight, USA Network's
highly praised hit series. He received critical acclaim for his recurring portrayal of Warner Brothers studio chief Alan Grey
on Entourage, and also starred as Special Agent Bobby Hobbes in the international hit series The Invisible Man, a role that
earned him a Best Supporting Actor Audience Award for the Sci Fi Channel. Ben-Victor also turned out a unique and powerful
performance as Palaka on the David Milch HBO series John From Cincinnati, and appeared regularly in the hit comedy Everybody
Hates Chris. He attended the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University and is a member of the Actor's Studio.
In
addition to Los Angeles workshops, IAFT offers short-term programs covering a wide range of film and media competencies throughout

Canadian Short Screenplay Competition
The Canadian Short Screenplay Competition (CSSC) is an annual writing contest, established in 2008, that seeks to celebrate
excellence in short film screenwriting. In a digital age with waning attention spans, brevity truly is the soul of wit.
It is the belief of the CSSC that there are many festivals dedicated to short films: their viewing, reading and work-shopping.
But there are very few, if any, competitions that celebrate and reward the writers of these marvelous works with a fully realized
production using professional crews and talent.
The CSSC does just that.
The competition will herald
and reward the best and most successful writers of short film for the year (amongst all submissions received) with the ultimate
prize: a professionally produced, live-action short film of the top first place (Grand Prize) award-winning scripted entry
as determined by the industry judges.
The CSSC is being administered and run by Year of the Skunk Productions.
